The first line of the “health QR code system” written by programmers from Alipay, a subsidiary of Chinese tech giant Alibaba, which has helped curb the spread of COVID-19 in East China’s Hangzhou city since early February, was recently added to the collection of the National Museum of China, local media reported Aug 31.

It was the first time that a program code has been included in a museum collection in China Hangzhou.

The first lines of the “health code engine” developed by Ali Cloud targeting all domestic users, as well as a diagnostic product developed by Alibaba DAMO Academy which was facilitated by artificial intelligence technology for the computed tomography imaging of COVID-19, were also added to the museum’s collection.

Signatures and portraits of the programmers behind the codes were attached below the lines, a reflection of their efforts in fighting the epidemic.

“It’s cool to see my codes being included by the National Museum of China,” said Liu Zhifei, a web front-end development engineer at Alipay. “I feel flattered and will definitely make a visit to Beijing.”

A total of 30 items echoing the efforts made by Alibaba and its subsidiaries in the fight against COVID-19 were collected by the museum in the most recent batch of additions. The others included four clinical treatment manuals for COVID-19, critical illness insurance policies offered free to front-line medical workers, customs declarations for the donation of medical supplies to countries in six continents, and outfits with signatures of deliverymen who felt duty-bound to send take-out meals to medical workers in Wuhan who risked their own health to help other people.
