August 24, 2020 – Springfield, MA – Anna Banas-Chen, the child author of Rainbow the Cat: Makes New Friends, is earning new recognition for her children’s story and support of the Pioneer Valley community.

Recently, Anna Banas-Chen was commended for her efforts by State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo and Molly Biechele, Associate Director of Development of Dakin Humane Society. The duo recognized Banas-Chen at an event at the Dakin Humane Society for her hard work and generosity, which has focused on bettering the local community despite her young age. On behalf of the Dakin Humane Society, Biechele expressed her appreciation for the $700.00 donation and outlined how it will be used to provide medical support, food, and adoption services for animals in the local Pioneer Valley area.

“I am so impressed with Anna not only with her writing skills, but the care and compassion that she has to make our community a better place, and her desire to help people and animals through her words and generosity,” stated State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr.

Anna wrote Rainbow the Cat: Makes New Friends at just five years old, inspired by her teacher and reading buddy. Exploring the topic of “shyness” that often accompanies a new school year, Rainbow the Cat: Makes New Friends has resonated with children for its sweet, relatable themes, including words, thoughts, and phrases that have helped a new generation of school-aged children overcome shyness and the difficulties of making friends with newfound courage.

Since its debut two years ago, seven-year-old Banas-Chen has been donating profits from Rainbow the Cat: Makes New Friends to three area non-profit organizations: United Nations Children’s Fund, Little Free Library®, and Dakin Humane Society. Banas-Chen was recently recognized for her $700 donation to the Dakin Humane Society, which will help the non-profit continue to provide for animals in its care, especially during times of increasing challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

Since releasing Rainbow the Cat: Makes New Friends, Banas-Chen has received tremendous support from popular establishments like Breakfast Room, Aunties’ Ice Cream Parlor, and also Three Fins Coffee Roaster in Dennis, MA on Cape Cod. Anna’s success is partly due to the support she received from the business owners who helped her gain traction by selling her book at their business establishments.
